  24. II. Installing Order Assistant PLUS on your Hard Drive
  25. ================

  27. You do not have to install Order Assistant to your Hard Drive if you prefer not to. It will run fine directly from the CD.
  28.  
  29. However, for greater performance, or to avoid having to keep the CD in the drive you can partially or completely copy the program to your hard drive.
  30.  
  31. Make sure you keep the same folder structure on your hard drive that exists on the CD.
  32.  
  33. Any components that you do no copy to your hard drive will be accessed from the CD if it is mounted.
  34.  
  35. If you do not copy a component to the hard drive, and do not have the CD mounted then the program functionality will be limited:

  37. If you do not copy the 'xxx01txt.dat' file in the 'data' folder to the hard drive then the Browse Tab will be unavailable.
  38.  
  39. If you do not copy the 'xxx01img.dat' file in the 'data' folder to the hard drive then you will not be able to display images in the Browse Tab.
  40.  
  41. If you do not copy the Extras folder to the hard drive then you will be unable to access external files, like Material Safety Data Sheets.

  44. III: Moving files between Windows and MAC
  45. ================

  47. Files created with Order Assistant can be moved between Windows and Macintosh computers. Instructions for doing so appear below.
  48.  
  49. ::**WARNING**:: Files created with earlier versions of Order Assistant can not be moved between Windows and Macintosh computers. These old files should first be opened and resaved in the current version of Order Assistant on the same computer type where they were originally created. The resaved files can then be moved to the other type of computer as described below.

  51. ======= Moving files from MAC to Windows

  55. You can move an order from Macintosh to Windows in several ways: 
  56.  
  57. 1. Save it to a PC-Formatted floppy, zip disk, etc. This requires that your computer be running PC-Exchange.
  58.  
  59. 2. Copy it to a network file server where it will be visible to the Windows machine.
  60.  
  61. In any case, you should give the order a ".SKO" extension so that the file will be recognized on the PC.

  67. Using a Macintosh to open an order originally created on a Windows machine requires several steps:
  68.  
  69. 1. You must physically get the file onto the Macintosh. You can do this via a PC-Formatted floppy or zip disk, etc. (requires PC-Exchange on the Macintosh), or by copying the file to a network server where it will be visible to the Macintosh.

  71. 2. You must set up PC-Exchange (called File Exchange in MacOS 8.5) to recognize the file using the following steps:

  73. 2a: Select "Control Panels|PC Exchange" (or "Control Panels|File Exchange) from the Apple Menu. (For "File Exchange" click the "PC Exchange" tab at the top of the window).
  74.  
  75. 2b: Click on the "Add..." button.
  76.  
  77. 2c: Enter ".SKO" in the "PC Suffix" field.
  78.  
  79. 2d: Find and select your copy of Order Assistant using the buttons and listbox (or, if you are using "File Exchange" you can just select Order Assistant in the list already created for you).

  81. 2e: Select "1SkB" from the "Document Type" pulldown menu.

  83. 2f: Click on "Ok" ("Add" for "File Exchange")

  85. 2g: Make sure the "On" radio-button is selected, then close the "PC Exchange" / "File Exchange" window.

  87. 3: You may now open orders that came from Windows by double-clicking on them. Due to limitations of PC-Exchange, you will not see these orders if you try to open them using "File|Open" in Order Assistant.
